The Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC) has officially confirmed the appointment of Mr. Kabir Akanbi as the substantive Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. The appointment was communicated to Mr. Akanbi through a letter issued to him on Friday, 14th March 2025.

This was disclosed in a statement on Sunday by Dr. Akande Festus, Director of Information and Public Relations, Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Mr. Akanbi’s new role follows his temporary appointment as Acting Chief Registrar, which began on 13th February 2025, following the retirement of the former Chief Registrar, Hajo Sarki-Bello.

Prior to this appointment, Mr. Akanbi served as the Deputy Chief Registrar overseeing the Election Petition Tribunal Unit at the Court of Appeal headquarters in Abuja. With over two decades of experience in law and information and communication technology (ICT), he brings a wealth of expertise to his new position.

Mr. Akanbi earned his Law Degree from the University of Ibadan in 2001 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2003. In 2005, he completed his LL.M. at Temple University in Philadelphia, USA. Additionally, he is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and the Institute of Information Management, Africa.
