THE Federal Government-sponsored scholars in Russia and one other country are to get their allowances this week, the government assured on Wednesday.

According to the government, the apex bank stopped processing disbursement immediately the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic broke.

Minister of State for Education Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba said on Wednesday that his ministry had signed off all the remittances.

Speaking at the Presidential Task Force on CCOVID-19 Control in Abuja, the minister apologised to the students for the delay, saying that the CBN had hitches processing the monies during the lockdown triggered by COVID-19.

Nwajiuba said: “On why our students in Russia haven’t received their monies, let me first use this opportunity to apologise to them – as many as have not received their monies.

“I think we have a few problems in just about two countries – everyone else has received their monies. It’s none of their faults.

“The CBN suspended work on it immediately this pandemic broke. We at the ministry of Education have signed off on all the remittances. However, we expect that they will be paid during the week.

“I have just confirmed on the phone from the director in charge that the CBN is at work on it. If you have incurred other expenses out there, you can liaise with the embassy and foreign affairs ministry; these places are available for you to report to.”
