Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has cautioned Ifeanyi Ejiofor, a lawyer to the detained pro-Biafra agitator, Nnamdi Kanu, to desist from writing her directly.

Justice Nyako noted that Ejiofor had written two lengthy letters to her directly in relation to Kanu’s trial as against the procedure of channelling such letters through the Registrar of the court.

The judge, who spoke during a hearing in the Kanu criminal trial on Thursday, said she would not tolerate any such breach of procedure by Kanu’s lawyer.

Kanu was not brought to court on Thursday.

His lawyer, who was silent on the judge’s observation, proceeded to argue a motion in which he prayed the court to among others, to abridge the time earlier set from further hearing in the case.

Ejiofor urged the court to hear the case in any date in December as against the January 19 earlier set for resumption of hearing in the case.

Ruling, Justice Nyako noted that the court’s diary was filled and that there was no earlier date to which the case could be shifted.

After reconsidering Ejiofor’s request, the judge elected to to shift all the cases earlier scheduled for January 18 and adjourned the Kanu’s case till then.

Ejiofor’s attempt to move another application, challenging the competence of the charge against his client, was opposed by Magaji, who said the application did not form part of the court’s business for the day.

Justice Nyako agreed with Magaji and adjourned further hearing in the case till January 18 next year.

The ordered the State Security Service (SSS) in whose custody Kanu is being detained, to allow the detainee to practice his faith, change his clothes and be given maximum possible comfort in the detention facility.

The Ejiofor had complained that his client was not being accorded sufficient comfort in detention.
