Governor Rotimi Akeredolu Ondo State has warned civil servants in the state not to get involved in partisan politics as the governorship election is drawing nearer.

The governor specifically warned the workers against wearing T-shirts and caps with political slogans, which could show their partisanship during the election.

He asked them to allow politicians to play politics while they focus on their official duties.

Akeredolu gave the warning on Thursday in Akure, the state capital, at a special prayer service to mark the first working day in the New Year held at the governor’s office.

He declared that necessary regulations of the public service would be applied to sanction any worker who violated the civil service rules and regulations.

He said, “I don’t want any civil servant to wear endorsement T-shirts for me. Civil servants should not be involved in politics.

“I don’t want workers to do like they did before I came on board. They should focus on their jobs and let politicians play politics.

”We are all political animals, but workers should stay away from politics. And if they want to do, it should be done moderately.”

On the new minimum wage, the governor said his administration would pay the new N30,000 minimum wage as soon as the ongoing negotiation between the organised labour and the state government was concluded.

He noted that the state was among the very few states already discussing the implementation of the new minimum wage.

He said, “The organised labour and government have been having discussions and negotiations, and we are fine-tuning our conclusions to ensure that we come up with the most acceptable and sustainable salary structure, considering the financial strength of the state.

“I wish to assure you that payment of the new wage would commence as soon as the ongoing discussions and negotiations are concluded.“

In his words of exaltation, the Catholic Bishop of Ondo Diocese, Jude Arogundade, called on the governor to work for the people of the state in the area of wealth generation and creation.

He stressed that this was necessary to enable the state to be self-reliant and needed not to be relying on the federal allocations any longer.
