The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council has announced the resolution of its misunderstanding with Barrister Douglas Ogbankwa, a former Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Edo State branch.

In a press release signed by the NUJ Secretary, Andy Egbon, the union stated that the dispute was resolved following the intervention of stakeholders and respected citizens at a meeting held at the Benin Club in Benin City.

As part of the resolution, Barr. Ogbankwa has withdrawn the case filed at the police station stemming from the issue that precipitated the misunderstanding between the parties.

The NUJ has subsequently asked all journalists in the state to cease any hostilities arising from the dispute and return to their normal duties.

“The leadership of the union hereby thanks union members and other stakeholders for their solidarity and cooperation while the issue lasted,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, sources privy to the resolution revealed that both parties agreed to withdraw any defamatory publications made during the course of the dispute. Ogbankwa had initiated police action over certain publications, while journalists also published materials deemed defamatory after the arrest of a colleague, Freeman Agbedo, related to the matter.

The NUJ expressed gratitude to all those who mediated in resolving the impasse and allowed the parties to move forward amicably
