Ifeanyi Ejiofor, a member of the legal team representing the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has accused the Department of State Security (DSS) has continuing to flout the court order on the treatment of the separatist leader.

In a statement on Tuesday after visiting Kanu, the lawyer alleged that the DSS has continued to mete out inhuman treatment to his client.

According to him, Kanu had not eaten since Sunday when he met his lawyers on Monday.

He said: “…Our client – Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu – extended his compliments to his millions of supporters.

“He remains profoundly grateful for your support and solidarity thus far.

“Sadly, we observed with dismay, and it is indeed very worrisome, that notwithstanding the far-reaching orders made by the court on December 2, 2021, the detaining authority being the DSS have in their usual style, flouted and/or ignored the said court orders.

“We were informed by our client that none of the pronouncements made by the court on the 2nd of December 2021 has been obeyed by the lawless DSS.

“They have unrepentantly continued to treat the orders of the court with the greatest disdain.

“Our client further informed us that he had not eaten anything since Sunday, apparently being punished because we dared to complain to the court about the harsh condition under which he is being held in custody.

“But, very, unfortunately, this should be the height of their reckless affront to the orders of the court.

“At the time Her Lordship made these far-reaching orders in open court, I did not mince words in bringing to the attention of the court that the operatives of the DSS will flout these orders, pursuant to which the court specifically directed me to come back to her with these facts if her order is flouted by the detaining authority.”

Ejiofor said he will be approaching the court immediately over the treatment of his client, which he described as terrifying, totally unacceptable, grossly condemnable, and intolerable.

He urged the DSS to respect the constitution from which it derives its powers, arguing that Kanu is still guaranteed his rights as he has not been convicted by any court in the land.

The DSS had earlier asked Kanu’s lawyers to seek legal redress if they have any complaints.
