*SCAD Is For Law Undergraduates And Nigerian Law School Students.
*Members Of The Legal, Public Policy & Business Community, As Well As The General Public Are Invited

SimmonsCooper Partners (SCP) is delighted to announce the finals of the 6th edition of the SimmonsCooper Advocacy Development (SCAD) Programme scheduled to hold on Saturday, 25th September 2021, 10:00 am WAT.

The SCAD initiative was conceived by the firm in 2012 under the leadership of His Excellency, the Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo SAN, GCON, who was Senior Partner at the firm.

According to the statement signed by Funmilola Mesaiyete, who is a partner at SimmonsCooper, SCAD Programme is designed principally for law undergraduates as well as students of the Nigerian Law School.

According to a Partner in the Firm, Funmilola Mesaiyete, “The main objective of SCAD is to develop the skills of law students in legal analysis, research, writing, and advocacy. In addition, we expect participants to cultivate an interest in public policy development, socio-economic rights, social justice, and economic development.

Through the SCAD programme, we at SCP hope to also spark interest and thought in the legal, commercial and public interest issues that affect our society.

“This is reflected in this year’s dispute scenario addressing emerging areas of business in fin-tech and its intersection with data privacy while still touching on the more traditional, but no less important, areas of intellectual property and arbitration. Participants who emerge from the preliminary rounds into the finals are sure to grasp the rigour of scholarship and creative thinking that we believe are necessary for today’s lawyer who grapples with fast-paced technological advancement, and evolving economic paradigm and the constant societal demand for change amid an entrenched legal framework.

“The SCAD programme tests participants’ grasp of substantive issues of law across different areas. But even more weighty are participants’ application of critical thinking, creativity, case-related theoretical thinking, logical writing and presentation as well as oral advocacy.

Funmilola, also added that outstanding students are awarded prizes across the different categories and are provided with internship opportunities at SimmonsCooper Partners and other prestigious partner organisations.

“We are proud of our SCAD Alumni many of whom have gone on to produce exceptional academic performances and have started their professional careers in impressive fashion.

“SCP invites members of the Nigerian Bar Association, students of law and other disciplines, members of the Nigerian business community and the general public to this knowledge-impacting event.”
