Shari’a Kadi Allegedly Marries A Lady Without Parent’s Consent In Katsina

A sharia court judge in Funtua identified as Alkali Usman Funtua has allegedly married one Zainab Sabi’u Musa, 25yrs, of Gyazama village, Dandume Local Government without the consent of her parents, According to katsinapost.

Katsina Post gathered that Alkali Usman who married Zainab was arrested by NAPTIP officials in Katsina.

It was alleged, however, that Zainab fled her father’s house in Gyazama, went to Katsina for the wedding solemnization was allegedly masterminded by the Shari’a judge.

The Wedding solemnization held, on Monday, on the orders Kauran Katsina at Katsina Emir’s Palace, who was said to have been misled by the victim’s uncle that falsely represented her biological father during the wedding.

Mustapha Shitu, a defence counsel to Zainab’s father in an interview with our correspondent described the incident as “exploitation and degrading right”.

Mahuta narrated that the accused, Alkali Usman unlawfully connived with her uncle to marry Zainab at Emir’s Palace, which led to tormenting the illness condition of her father.

He said that “the accused is fully aware that Zainab is supposed to Marry one Isah Magaji who were dating for over 10years, but instead connived with the victim’s uncle and her guardians to arrange for the marriage with Alkali Usman at Katsina Emir’s Palace”.

“The Emirate could have investigated that her father is not in support of the marriage, neither imposed anyone against her will to avoid falling for the mischief”. Mahuta said

Alhaji Sabi’u Gyazama, a father to Zainab told Katsina Post how severally declined the request of the Judge upon insisting on marrying his daughter.

The old man, obviously looking sick, while speaking in sober, said that he could neither sleep nor eat since the incident happened.

“I never come across this grievance in my entire life. Everyone knows I am not aware of the marriage. She supposed to get married to Isah Magaji whom she was dating for the past 10 years, Not Alkali Usman”.

He narrated how he repeatedly warned the judge who comes to secretly visit Zainab in fear of what might arise.

Barrister Umar Hassan, a counsel to the Judge, when contacted revealed that only Shari’a court has the jurisdiction to reaffirm the legality of the marriage.

Hassan alleged that the decision of Zainab’s father to get her married to Isah Magaji is against her will, which led her to escape to Katsina Emir’s Palace for help.

He stressed the need for discussion with other parties involved; the bride, groom, Emir’s palace for a detailed fact.

Katsina Post authoritatively gathered that the judge was later apprehended by NAPTIP officials for exploitation and degrading of her parent right.

The NAPTIP spokesman, Aliyu Abba when contacted for comment vowed to call later after consulting his superior but failed to till the time of compiling the report.

Katsina Post learnt that the whereabouts of Zainab is not ascertained by her parent since the day she got married to the Sharia judge at the Emir’s Palace.
