The Taraba State Judicial Service Commission (TSJSC) has approved the promotion of 535 staff across various cadres of the state judiciary, alongside the confirmation of several senior appointments and disciplinary action against two officers.

The decisions were taken at the commission’s 125th meeting held in Jalingo and chaired by the Chief Judge of Taraba State, Justice Joel Agya.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Secretary to the Commission, Hajia Talatu Abubakar, the commission said it unanimously adopted the report of its Promotion Sub-Committee, leading to the elevation of 535 judicial staff.

The statement noted that the promotions cut across different levels and departments within the Taraba State Judiciary and were part of ongoing efforts to motivate staff and strengthen the administration of justice in the state.

On disciplinary matters, the commission sanctioned Assauten Abason, a Senior Magistrate II on Grade Level 13, by removing him from judicial duties and demoting him to the rank of Senior Registrar on Grade Level 10, with effect from December 19, 2025. He was also recalled to the High Court Headquarters for a period of two years.

In a separate decision, the commission demoted William Jakwanti from Registrar I on Grade Level 9 to Assistant Registrar on Grade Level 7. He was similarly recalled to the headquarters and directed to refund the sum of ₦40,000 to one Musa Audu.

The commission reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, discipline and accountability within the judiciary, stressing that promotions and sanctions were guided strictly by merit, performance and established rules of service.
