Members of the Senate Committee on Army yesterday disagreed on the alleged lopsidedness in the recent recruitments by the Nigerian Army.

The disagreement happened during the committee’s interactive session with the Commander of Training and Doctrine Command of the Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Steven Olabanji.

A member of the committee, who is also the Senate Deputy Minority Whip, Abdullahi Ibrahim Danbaba (Sokoto South), had asked General Olabanji to explain alleged lopsided recruitment carried out by the Army recently.

But the committee’s Deputy Chairman, Abba Moro (Benue South), who presided over the session, ruled Danbaba out of order. Another member of the committee, Barinada Mpigi (Rivers South East), repeated the question, which Moro again ruled against.

Apparently angered by the insistence of Moro that questions on recruitment should not be entertained during the session, Senators Danbaba and Mpigi walked out of the meeting.

Expressing his anger to reporters on what transpired during the session, Danbaba said he and Mpigi walked out because of Moro’s alleged dictatorial action.

Moro later told reporters that he did not regret ruling Danbaba out of order on the matter.
