The Nigerian Senate has summoned Brekete Family radio host, Ahmad Isah, to appear before the red chamber on February 27, 2025, following his live interview with Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The summon comes in the wake of a heated session in the Senate last week, where Akpoti-Uduaghan protested the unauthorised relocation of her seat. The incident led to a confrontation with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, causing a commotion in the chamber.

Following the clash, Isah hosted Akpoti-Uduaghan on his popular radio programme, Brekete Family, where she spoke about the controversy. The interview reportedly prompted the Senate to invite Isah for questioning.

However, former Senator Shehu Sani has condemned the Senate’s decision, calling it “unnecessary and demeaning.”

Taking to his X handle on Monday, Sani wrote:
“Inviting Ahmed Isah, the CEO of Brekete Radio, to the Senate is unnecessary and demeaning.”

The controversy erupted during the Senate’s plenary session last Thursday when Akpoti-Uduaghan, who chairs the Senate Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organisations, discovered that her nameplate had been removed from her usual seat.

Outraged, she raised her voice in protest, demanding an explanation.

Senate Chief Whip, Senator Tahir Monguno (APC, Borno North), later raised a point of order, alerting Akpabio to what he described as Akpoti-Uduaghan’s “improper seating position.”

Before Monguno could conclude, Akpoti-Uduaghan forcefully interrupted, questioning why her seat was changed without prior notice. This led to a heated exchange with Akpabio.

As tempers flared, Akpabio ordered the Sergeant-at-Arms to remove her from the chamber and warned that she could face suspension if she continued protesting.

“Can the Sergeant-at-Arms please take her out of the Senate?” Akpabio ordered.

Her microphone was switched off as security personnel attempted to escort her out, but she resisted, raising her voice even louder.

Sensing an escalation, some senators, including Kogi Senator Isah Jibrin (APC, Kogi East) and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central), intervened to calm the situation.
