Suspended Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has taken her case to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Meeting at the United Nations in New York, seeking justice and international intervention over what she describes as an unlawful suspension from the Nigerian Senate.

Speaking at the Women in Parliament Session during the IPU meeting, Senator Natasha called on global democratic institutions to address what she termed as political oppression. She argued that her suspension was a result of standing up against injustice, particularly following a heated exchange with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The lawmaker’s suspension sparked nationwide debate, especially after she accused Senate President Akpabio of sexual harassment—an allegation that further fueled political tensions in the country. In a vide Natasha was seen in tears while presenting her case at the global forum.

Beyond her suspension, the Senator also raised concerns about her personal security, alleging that there were indications she could be held against her will in New York for speaking out. She claimed that “the powers that be” in Nigeria might be orchestrating attempts to silence her.

By bringing her case to the United Nations and the IPU, Senator Natasha aims to garner international support against what she perceives as political victimization.
