The legal team representing Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has strongly criticized what it described as a troubling display of selective justice, following the Federal Government’s decision to file criminal charges against the senator, while allegedly ignoring over a dozen petitions she submitted between March and May 2025.

In a statement released on Monday by her lead counsel, Uju Nwoduwu, the legal team detailed twelve petitions reportedly filed by the senator, raising concerns about cyberstalking, threats to life, defamation, and even an alleged assassination plot targeting her associates. The statement alleged that none of the petitions has received attention from the Nigeria Police Force or relevant security agencies.

“The public expects law enforcement and prosecutorial bodies to uphold fairness, the rule of law, and impartial justice in all matters involving her,” the statement read.

The team expressed alarm that while Akpoti-Uduaghan’s complaints remain uninvestigated, counter-allegations made by individuals named in her petitions have been swiftly processed, culminating in criminal charges against her.

“This selective response raises deep concerns about biased enforcement of justice,” the statement continued, noting that some of the ignored petitions involved high-profile individuals and serious incidents such as abduction and an attempted assassination of a protocol officer.

Although currently outside the country on personal engagements, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has acknowledged receipt of official communications regarding the charges and has pledged to appear for arraignment once a date is set.

“She remains fully committed to due process,” her legal team affirmed, while thanking members of the public who have condemned what they described as “an extremely curious criminal charge.”

The statement concluded with a renewed call for impartial investigations into all petitions and a plea for equal application of justice regardless of status or affiliation.
