*Says Epe High Court Complex “Perpetually In Darkness

A prominent Lagos-based lawyer Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, SAN, has called on Governor Babajide Sanwoolu to urgently address the worsening traffic situation along the Lekki-Epe expressway.

Adegboruwa recounted his harrowing experience traveling from Ijebu-Ode to Lekki Phase 1 via Epe, describing a “total lockdown” caused by ongoing road construction. He expressed concern for commuters stuck in the gridlock, which extended from Sangotedo to VGC.

The Senior Advocate criticized the state government for neglecting the Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki zones, which he claimed generate about 70% of Lagos State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). He pointed to several abandoned projects in the area, including the VGC link bridge, the 4th Mainland Bridge, and the Lekki airport.

“The VGC link bridge has been abandoned after Governor Babajide Sanwoolu secured his second term ticket,” Adegboruwa said. “The 4th Mainland Bridge project has also been abandoned, for no cogent reason. The Lekki airport project is now in dreamland.”

Adegboruwa also highlighted the state of disrepair at the High Court complex in Epe, describing it as “perpetually in darkness and as hot as hell itself.” In contrast, he noted the ongoing construction of bridges, roads, and transit lines in the mainland zones.

“Talk of robbing Peter to pay Paul,” he quipped.

The lawyer further alleged that the state government had planned to “tax these neglected people to their bones” by imposing two toll points on the expressway, a move he said was thwarted by “divine intervention and the spirited struggle of the people.”

Adegboruwa called on Governor Sanwoolu to fulfill his constitutional responsibilities to the people of Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki by providing durable infrastructure and reviving abandoned projects in the zones. He also urged the state government to execute the ongoing road construction in a manner that allows for the smooth flow of traffic.

“Let the Governor revive all abandoned projects in these zones in order to create a sense of inclusion in governance,” Adegboruwa said. “The ongoing road construction should be executed in such a way as to create room for smooth flow of traffic in order to ease the burden on the people.”
