Popular Nollywood actor, Alex Ekubo, has died at the age of 40.

His death was confirmed on Tuesday by some of his colleagues in the movie industry, including Funke Akindele, Bolanle Ninalowo and Godwin Nnadiekwe, who paid emotional tributes to him on social media.

Akindele, in a post on her Instagram story, mourned the actor, saying she had tried to reach out to him before his passing. She described him as a dear friend and said she would continue to cherish the memories they shared.

Bolanle Ninalowo also paid tribute to the late actor, praying for God to comfort his family and colleagues in the industry.

Godwin Nnadiekwe, who also mourned Ekubo, described his death as heartbreaking, saying Nollywood had lost a rare soul.

As of the time of this report, Ekubo’s family had not issued an official statement on the circumstances surrounding his death.

Before news of his death emerged, fans had expressed concern over his long absence from social media. The actor had not posted on Instagram since December 30, 2024, before a recent viral video showed him looking noticeably slimmer while interacting with children.

Ekubo was one of Nollywood’s popular faces, known for his roles in several movies and his strong presence in the entertainment industry.
