The Managing Director of the Edo State Broadcasting Service, Sulaiman Aledeh, has resigned from his position hours after he was redeployed to the Edo State Orientation Agency.

The Edo State Government had earlier announced Aledeh’s redeployment as pioneer Director-General of the Orientation Agency with immediate effect.

In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor, the government also named the Edo State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Mr. Festus Alenkhe, as Acting Managing Director of EBS.

According to the statement, Alenkhe will oversee the operations of the broadcasting station pending the appointment or deployment of a substantive Managing Director.

The government said the redeployment formed part of ongoing administrative adjustments aimed at optimising resource management and strengthening institutional capacity across critical sectors of the state administration.

“The governor’s decision forms part of ongoing administrative adjustments designed to optimise resource management and strengthen institutional capacity across critical sectors of the state’s administration,” the statement read.

The government said Aledeh’s redeployment reflected its recognition of his professional expertise and capacity to advance the mandate of the Orientation Agency, which it described as critical to civic engagement, values promotion and public communication strategy across Edo State.

It also commended Aledeh for his service at EBS, saying he demonstrated dedication to public service broadcasting and institutional development during his tenure.

“During his tenure at EBS, Mr. Aledeh demonstrated considerable dedication to public service broadcasting and institutional development. The state government commends him for his outstanding contributions to the broadcasting sector and wishes him continued success in his new assignment,” the statement added.

However, Aledeh, in his resignation letter, said he was stepping aside to devote his attention to the next phase of his professional journey as a media practitioner and to pursue other endeavours as a private citizen.

His resignation came shortly after the government announced his redeployment, marking a sudden turn in the leadership changes affecting the state-owned broadcasting service.
