*Dismisses Officers for N965,000 Fraud, Illegal Vehicle Sales

The Jigawa State Judicial Service Commission has taken decisive action against several judicial officers, terminating three staff members and asking three Sharia Court judges to resign over various misconduct allegations.

The Jigawa State Judicial Service Commission (JSJSC) convened its 178th meeting in Dutse on January 7, 2025. The meeting culminated in several resolutions addressing issues of misconduct among judicial officers and staff.

The Commission, in a report signed by its Secretary, Barrister Auwalu Dan’azumi, announced the termination of Iyal Ibrahim (Higher Registrar, GL 08) and Baffa Alhaji (Principal Registrar, GL 14). The two officers were found guilty of illegally selling two vehicle exhibits belonging to the Federal High Court in Dutse. Their actions were deemed a violation of Rule 5(4)&(6) of the Jigawa State Judiciary Scheme of Service (2006).

Another officer, Abdu Hassan Aujara, Chief Clerical Officer, was also dismissed after an investigation revealed he suppressed ₦965,000, a litigant’s deposit tied to a recovery case filed by Ja’iz Bank before the Chief Magistrate Court, Jahun. His termination was in line with Section 41 of the Judicial Service Commission Law, Cap. J20 Laws of Jigawa State (2012).

Disciplinary Actions Against Shari’a Court Judges

  1. Alkali Adamu Isyaku Farin-Dutse
    The Shari’a Court Judge was found guilty of abusing judicial power and misapplying the law, despite prior warnings. The Commission resolved to advise him to tender his resignation within two weeks, citing Section 41 of the Judicial Service Commission Law.
  2. Alkali Muhammad Shehu Usman
    Accused of issuing a writ of possession before delivering a judgment, Alkali Usman’s actions were deemed a violation of judicial procedures. The Commission advised him to resign within two weeks.
  3. Alkali Usman Usman Zubair
    Found guilty of improperly adjudicating matters of inheritance and allowing a non-party to benefit, Alkali Zubair was similarly advised to resign within two weeks due to repeated irregularities in his rulings.

Warnings Issued to Magistrates

  1. Resident Magistrate Munir Sarki Abdullahi
    Magistrate Abdullahi received a warning for converting a civil matter to a criminal case and displaying partisanship. The warning was issued under Section 41 of the Judicial Service Commission Law.
  2. Magistrate Yakubu Ibrahim
    Magistrate Ibrahim was warned for abusing his power by insulting and using derogatory language towards a litigant at the Chief Magistrate Court, Maigatari.
