The House of Representatives Committee on Health Services Sunday queried the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control over the N1.2bn proposed for purchase of vehicles, Information Communications Technology and computer systems in its 2022 budget.

The committee queried the rationale for the humongous amounts budgeted for vehicles and ICT equipment as well as other capital projects when the NAFDAC Director-General, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, appeared to defend the agency’s 2022 budget.

Adeyeye had told the committee that N2.9bn was budgeted for building of NAFDAC’s offices, N614.3m for procurement of vehicles, N666.2m for provision of ICT and computer systems, N157.1m for plants and generators, N1.4bn for laboratory equipment, N78m for office furniture and fittings, N73.9m for meals and hospitality, N752.6m for local and international travels, among others.

A breakdown of the budget showed that the agency is to purchase 80 computers (PCs) for N550,000 each and 50 laptops for N625,000 each, among other computer accessories.
