The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested one Nwobo Chibuike, the alleged mastermind behind a large-scale land scam in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. He is accused of defrauding unsuspecting members of the public by selling non-existent plots of land across multiple districts of the capital.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, Chibuike, who claims to be the Managing Director of C&C Reality & Construction Limited, Dream-Krest Homes and Properties Limited, and Dan Faith Shelters Limited, was apprehended following a series of petitions from defrauded victims.

Investigations by the Commission reportedly revealed that the suspect marketed fictitious plots in areas including Kurudu, Sabon Lugbe East Extension, Kpeyegyi, and Jikoyi Village Extension. Victims were said to have paid sums ranging between ₦3.5 million and ₦60 million for land allegedly located in high-demand areas such as Katampe Extension, Guzape II, Kuje, and Pyakasa.

Further verification with the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) indicated that many of the purported land locations being sold by Chibuike and his agents do not exist.

The EFCC confirmed that the suspect will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

In the meantime, the anti-graft agency has issued a public advisory urging Abuja residents to exercise extreme caution when dealing with land vendors, particularly those not registered with recognized estate authorities.

“The public is hereby alerted to be wary of such vendors, especially itinerant land marketers around the FCT and be appropriately guided,” the statement read.

This arrest is the latest in a string of high-profile real estate fraud cases rocking the FCT.

In January 2025, the Nigeria Police arraigned a couple, Rebecca Isaac (a.k.a. Bilkisu Ishaku Aliyu) and her husband, Ishaku Isaac, alongside their firm, Homadil Realty Limited, over a similar scam involving four prime plots in Guzape and Katampe. The accused were granted ₦10 million bail each by Justice Sadia Mayana of the FCT High Court in Apo.

Additionally, in December 2024, Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja granted an interim forfeiture order over the disputed plots, pending further investigations by the EFCC.

Chibuike’s arrest adds to the growing list of fraudulent land-related prosecutions, as authorities intensify efforts to sanitize the Abuja property market.
