Fresh revelations have emerged detailing the harrowing circumstances surrounding the abduction and murder of two undergraduates of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), Friday Abah, 25, and Eloho Okah, 19, who went missing nearly a month ago.

Addressing journalists in Akure on Wednesday, Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, confirmed that the victims were abducted on June 20, 2025, and later murdered by armed robbers who had posed as acquaintances.

The decomposing body of one of the victims was recovered last week at a border community between Ekiti and Ondo States — more than three weeks after their disappearance. The police say ₦800,000 was withdrawn from Mr Abah’s account during captivity, and the female victim, Eloho, was raped before being killed alongside her friend after she reportedly recognised and unmasked one of the attackers.

“Following a petition dated 24 June, 2025, submitted by G.O. Omoedu & Co., Legal Practitioners, on behalf of one Mr Emmanuel Peter of Shagari Village, Akure, the Command launched an intensive investigation into the disappearance of his younger brother and his friend, both students of Adekunle Ajasin University,” Mr Lawal said.

He explained that a breakthrough came through forensic tracking, which led detectives to Computer Village in Ikeja, Lagos, where an iPhone 14 Pro Max belonging to one of the victims was recovered from 38-year-old Abdul Mohammed Mubarak. Mubarak admitted to buying the phone from another suspect, Ojo Michael.

Michael was apprehended in Aramoko-Ekiti, where a Lexus RX 350 vehicle belonging to the victims was also recovered. Under interrogation, Michael confessed to participating in the robbery, abduction, rape, and murder of the two students.

According to police, Michael revealed that the operation was orchestrated by one Oladele Femi — landlord of the male victim — who allegedly hired him and another yet-to-be-arrested accomplice, identified as “Kola,” to carry out the crime. Michael further confessed that Eloho was raped and later killed, along with Friday, after she identified him as one of the attackers.

“Their bodies were dumped in different locations between Agbado and Ode-Ekiti,” the commissioner disclosed.

Mr Femi has since been arrested and, during questioning, reportedly admitted to planning the crime and aiding in the disposal of the bodies. Acting on his confession, detectives recovered Eloho’s remains in a bush near Ode-Ekiti. Efforts are ongoing to locate the body of Friday Abah, believed to have been dumped in a river by the fleeing suspect.

Commissioner Lawal described the crime as “a tragic reminder of the brutality of premeditated crimes and the devastating consequences of betrayal and greed.” He vowed that no stone would be left unturned in the pursuit of justice.

Meanwhile, the President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) at AAUA, Akeem Ologbon, has condemned the murder, describing it as “painful and devastating.”

In a statement issued Monday, Mr Ologbon said the union had been proactive from the onset of the disappearance by engaging relevant security agencies.

“We reached out to the anti-kidnapping squad in Akure and the Nigerian Police (Scorpion Squad),” he said. “We also ensured that the newly appointed Commissioner of Police was fully briefed, and a coordinated response was initiated.”

The incident has cast a pall over the university community, with students and staff mourning the loss of the two promising undergraduates. Police investigations continue as efforts intensify to apprehend the remaining suspect and recover the second victim’s body.
