The police have arraigned a public servant, Dominic Aduma, before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for obstruction of justice.

It was gathered that in July 2018, Aduma stood as a surety for two defendants, Kennedy Odama and Anthony Chukwuka, who were accused of diverting petroleum products.

He had allegedly undertaken to produce the suspects when requested by the police.

However, the men allegedly jumped bail as Aduma was arrested.

The charge read, “That you, Dominic Aduma, on July 6, 2018, at the State Intelligence Bureau, Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did enter into recognisance in the sum of N2.4m, subject to the condition that you will produce the accused persons…. You are hereby requested to show cause why you should not forfeit to the state the sum of N2.4m entered into by you in the said recognisance under Section 132(1) of Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State, 2003.”

Aduma pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The magistrate, Mrs T. A. Ojo, admitted him to bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned till May 9, 2019, for mention.
