*Gives Commission 21-Day Ultimatum To Furnish Document

An Effurun based legal firm J.L OGHENEVWAERHE OJUKOKO & ASSOCIATES has written a letter to the INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu requesting for the Certified True Copies of certain Public documents within his Custody as INEC Chairman on assumption of office in 2015 to date.

The law firm brought this request pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act 2011.

According to the letter, a copy of which was made available to us reads in part ;

” Pursuant to the relevant sections of the Freedom of Information Act 2011, we humble request for the Certified True Copies of the following information as they relate to public documents within your custody:

(a) Proof of receipt of the total funds disbursed to you from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as the head of INEC on assumption of office in 2015 to date.

(b) The Financial Statement of Accounts of INEC from the 1st day of January 2016 to date.

(c) Proof of the total expenditure of INEC for the period of 1st January 2016 to date including but not limited to the procurements made for the 2017 and 2023 general elections.

(d) Salary/Allowance payment voucher, logistics, honorarium payments of / for you (the Chairman) Resident Electoral Commissioners (REC) , the Secretary to the Commission , members of the INEC Committees , permanent and adhoc staff of the Commission.

(e) Proof of receipt of the total money made to the INEC Fund from 1st January 2016 to date including but not limited to monies paid into the INEC Fund as interest from investment made from the fund; aids and grants received within the period aforementioned’

The Chairman was given 21 days to comply with the request.

When contacted, Mr John-larry Ojukoko confirmed the letter and added INEC by a reply dated 6th April 2023 but received 17th April 2023 acknowledged the receipt of the letter and that they are processing the request.
