There is no gain saying that, Ota branch has been making tremendous efforts to be recognised amongst the most active and top branches of the NBA and to put the branch where it truly belongs in the comity of bar branches. In order to continue the good work and complement the efforts of our past and current Ota bar branch’s leaders, I hereby solicit for your priceless, uncompromising, steadfast and staunch support in our bid to move Ota branch forward. In this light, I have therefore highlighted an eleven points’ agenda which would guide the administration of our amiable bar branch if I am given the chance to lead our beloved branch.” Who is Isaac Omuta Ogbah, Esq? To answer this, let us take a look at his profile: PROFILE OF ISAAC OMUTA OGBAH, ESQ (NOTARY PUBLIC) Isaac Omuta Ogbah, Esq., is a reputable lawyer who has contributed and still contributes immensely to the development of the legal profession and legal jurisprudence in Nigeria. A scholar, Editor, a Notary public and a renown philanthropist, Isaac o. Ogbah who is the Editor- in- chief of Erudite Judgements of the Supreme Court (EJSC) , published by Legal jurisprudence Ltd, is a man with the wealth of experience required of a man of his aspiration. Mr. Ogbah graduated from the Nnamdi Azikwe University, Awka in 1999 with LL.B ( Hons) and was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in January, 2001. COMMENCEMENT OF THE OTA BAR BRANCH ANNUAL LAW WEEK PROGRAMME: It would be a thing of joy for me in particular and for members of the branch in general, to see that our branch organises an annual law week programme which is a norm amongst other Bar branches of repute. This law week would be a week long programme that would feature seminars/symposium, lectures with speakers from within and outside the branch, continuing legal Education events, varieties night , youn1g lawyers day and it would end with a standard law dinner befitting of the legal profession with members of the bench and bar and other dignitaries in attendance. A committee shall be set up to see to the organisation and success of this programme. 2. FACILITATION OF THE ACQUISITION OF A VAST AREA OF LAND TO BE CALLED BAR VILLAGE: We shall facilitate the acquisition of a vast area of land to be called “Bar village”, in which lawyers particularly, young lawyers who are members of the branch would be encouraged to acquire lands, which would be free of any form of encumbrances, in the same area at a cheap rate, payment of which can be made in an instalment. We will achieve this through an arrangement we would be entering with owners of lands in a choice area for the benefit of all members. 3. PERIODIC MENTORING PROGRAMMES FOR YOUNG LAWYERS: At every monthly meeting of the Bar, a senior lawyer shall be invited both within and outside the branch to mentor young lawyers and inspire them with talks on how to overcome challenges , new practice areas they need to shed their lights on and diversify their practices. This shall be includedin every monthly meeting’s agenda. 4. ORGANISATION OF CONTIONUING LEGAL EDUCATION PROGRAMMES: we shall see to the organisation of periodic continuous legal education programmes through a periodic organisation of seminars and lectures on various legal topics for both senior and young lawyers alike, and a certificate shall be issued to participants at the end of each seminar and or lectures. A continuing legal education committee shall be set upto see to the actualisation of this agendum. 5. ESTABLISHMENT OF AN EFFECTIVE AND ACTIVE YOUNG LAWYERS FORUM: Young lawyers from 1- 7 years post call shall be encouraged to form the young lawyers forum with its own executives , under the supervision of the bar branch’s executive in council . This forum shall be saddled with the responsibility of charting a course for young lawyers within the branch and always relate issues bothering on the welfare of young lawyers at the branch with the branch’s executive in council for quick resolution and action. 6. ESTABLISHMENT OF AN EFFECTIVE AND ACTIVE STANDING HUMAN RIGHTS COMMITTEE OF THE BAR BRANCH: There shall be established an effective an active human rights Committee, for active response to issues of rights violations against members of the branch in particular and rights violation within the branch’s jurisdiction in general. This committee shall be adequately supported and motivated to work timeously and judiciously. 7. PROVISION OF NBA OTA BAR BRANCH’S MEMBERS DIARY; We shall provide to members of the branch, a sophisticated bar diary that will have an inbuilt evidence Act and directories of all members of the branch with little cost. 8. BAR CENTER COMPLETION: We shall see to the timely completion of the barcentre, construction of which has already been commenced by the current executive in council. 9. TIMELY DELIVERY OF THE BRANCH’S BAR BUS: we shall see to the timely delivery of the bar bus, plan of which has already been set in motion by the current administration. This bus is quite important as it would aid the movements’ of members and other logistics of the branch. 10. EFFECTIVE PARTICIPATION AND REPRESENTATION IN THE NEC AND NATIONAL BODY EVENTS: we shall participate effectively in the events of the NEC and the National body, which would make Ota bar branch to be more recognised and be acknowledged as one of the best bar branches. 11. CREATION OF COMMITTEES: There shall be established various committee within the branch such as the transparency and accountability committee, which will be running periodic auditing of the branch’s financial activities, Anti-corruption committee etc. These committees will aid the smooth running of the activities and events of the branch and at the long run ensure our agenda for the branch are actualised.]]>
