President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday held a private working lunch with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace in Paris, marking the fifth day of his 10-day working leave.

Photographs released by the State House showed both leaders exchanging a warm handshake before proceeding into the palace. Tinubu is spending his second tranche of annual leave between France and the United Kingdom.

The meeting represents Tinubu’s seventh visit to Paris since assuming office in May 2023, and his first since attending the BRICS Summit in Brazil and the Tokyo International Conference on African Development in Japan earlier this year.

In the first nine months of 2025, President Tinubu has undertaken 15 international trips across 11 countries for summits, bilateral meetings, state visits, presidential inaugurations, and official leaves.

His diplomatic itinerary began on January 6 with a visit to Accra, Ghana, for the inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama. He subsequently attended the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Summit in the UAE, the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit in Tanzania, and the 37th African Union Summit in Ethiopia.

Tinubu also traveled to France and the United Kingdom in April, attended the historic inauguration of Pope Leo XIV in Vatican City in May, and undertook a landmark state visit to Saint Lucia in June, where he addressed CARICOM leaders.

In July, he attended the BRICS Summit in Brazil and the Tokyo International Conference on African Development in Japan, with a stopover in Dubai, UAE. September has seen him back in Europe for a working vacation, including visits to London and Paris.

During his engagements, Tinubu has focused on promoting Nigeria’s investment readiness, strengthening trade, energy, and security partnerships, and advancing continental cooperation.
