The Nigeria Police Force has summoned the Divisional Police Officer of GRA Asaba, Delta State, CSP Joseph Udoh, to the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja for questioning over allegations of extortion and intimidation of a Good Samaritan who rushed a dying man to the hospital.

The Police Complaint Response Unit (NPF-CRU) disclosed this on its official X handle on Saturday while responding to a viral complaint by a woman identified as Sanwo Fatimah.

“The Divisional Police Officer, GRA Asaba, Delta State Police Command, has been summoned and will be in Police Force Headquarters Abuja for questioning concerning this complaint by next week. Thank you for contacting NPF-CRU. #NoToImpunity,” the police stated.

In a post that has since gone viral on social media, Fatimah narrated how she was accused of murder and extorted by the police after she rushed a dying young man who had collapsed on the road to the hospital.

According to her, the incident occurred sometime in 2025 when she made the decision to help the young man at the instance of a doctor she had called for advice, even as other passers-by chose to ignore the situation.

“Unfortunately, upon reaching the hospital, the young man gave up the ghost. Out of protocol, I requested that the police be informed since I never knew the person involved. I was just trying to be a good citizen,” she wrote.

However, her good deed turned into a nightmare when she was taken to the GRA Police Station in Asaba to report the incident.

“To tell you how wicked some officers of the Nigerian Police Force could be, I was instead accused of murder with my statement taken under caution,” she stated.

Fatimah alleged that CSP Joseph Udoh, the DPO, told her he would “deal with her for acting like Jesus.”

“Those were his exact words. He bluntly told me that when he is through with me, if I see anybody dying again, I would walk past, even after the deceased victim’s family had confirmed that their late son had an underlying condition,” she added.

She said the experience made her understand why people often make videos of accident victims instead of attempting to rescue them.

According to Fatimah, it took the intervention of a “very, very top government functionary” for her to escape the murder charge she was tagged with.

“Even after the VVIP personally came to attest and ensure I was released, the Nigerian Police Force, through CSP Joseph Udoh of the Asaba GRA Division, still emptied my account as bail money. I went home with only Two Thousand Naira,” she alleged.

Fatimah used the opportunity to thank God for bringing her out of the situation, noting that many people are still in prison for cases lesser than hers.

The police response summoning the DPO for questioning has been commended by many Nigerians who called for justice and an end to the alleged culture of extortion by some police officers.
