Anambra state police command says checkpoints may increase across the state if the need arises to guarantee a crime-free festive season especially as the state will play host to people from different parts of the country coming into the state for Christmas and new year celebrations.

The Commissioner of Police CP Echeng Eworo Echeng said the Christmas season is a period of conviviality and social intercourse which should be observed under a tranquil and serene atmosphere devoid of chaos and mayhem.

Echeng who spoke with our correspondent through the command’s spokesman DSP Ikenga Tochukwu explained that checkpoints were part of the strategies put in place by the command to checkmate crimes even though he also disclosed that the command would deploy intelligence officers to gather intelligence on traffic control.

The CP said that the police command is in synergy with the Federal Road Safety Corps to check traffic gridlocks that may arise from the checkpoints; adding that the command will do more to ensure that Anambra citizens enjoyed the peace they longed for.

The police boss noted that the command is firm in service delivery and also urged Ndi-Anambra to be security conscious as they go about their normal activities across the state.

The police commissioner also disclosed that the peace and safety being enjoyed in the state is as a result of the relentless hard work of the personnel of the Nigeria Police Anambra State Command.

He said also that the cooperation from members of the public has helped tremendously especially in providing useful information that has guided and prevented crimes. He said the command will intensify patrols in areas he described as hot spots; mentioning Upper Iweka in Onitsha, Owerri road, Awka and some other locations.

Echeng said the police command will also beam searchlights on residential buildings, recreational centres, places of worship because the police according to him, would apply an operational approach dynamic and unique to every situation while wishing Ndi-Anambra a fun-filled festive season.
