Another serving police inspector has reportedly committed suicide after his arrest over alleged involvement in supplying arms and ammunition to bandits and other criminal groups in Niger State.

The incident occurred barely a week after a similar case involving DSP Isah Abdullahi, the Officer in Charge of Mopol 12 Armoury at the B Division of the police command on Paikoro Road, Minna, who also died by suicide while under investigation for related allegations.

The latest victim was identified as Inspector John Moses, an indigene of Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State. He was arrested and detained after being implicated in a network suspected of engaging in the illegal supply of arms and ammunition to criminal elements.

Sources disclosed that Inspector Moses allegedly confessed to using his brother as an intermediary in the illicit arms supply chain.

According to the reports, Moses died on Sunday while in custody, where he was detained alongside other suspects.

He was said to have repeatedly struck his head against the wall of the detention cell before collapsing and dying.

When contacted, the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the development but said the matter was currently being handled by the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA).

Further details are expected as investigations continue.
