Police Brutality On Lawyer Very Pathetic, NBA Must Rise To Condemn This Ugly Trend—Samuel Ogoke

The police assault on lawyers in cause of performing their duties in defending clients has become very  worriesome and alarming. This is posing serious threat to  our noble Profession. The bar must rise against this ugly trend by conderming the activeties of these Police officers that almost murdered the  lawyer in Warri few days  ago. I am more particularly conerned  because  I had an experience with some Police officers when I merely went to the Police station to enquire about a client who was arrested on the suspsion of kidnapping. The officer harrased me and warned that if I attempt to come back for my client, he will charge me along as a conspirator because the suspect woud have paid my legal fee from the proceeds of kidnapping. It is very pathetic that the police who ought to work closely with the legal practitioner to ensure justice in the society are now doing otherwise. The function of the Police as contained in the police Act section 4 does not include Brutalization of the citizens. It ‘s quite sad. The Nigerian police has disregarded the high esteem ordinarily accorded them. I however agree that  some officers are doing their job well, very  few however are hell­-bent on destroying the image of the Nigeria Police Force. They must be shown the way out.
