The police have arrested a top immigration officer, Abdullahi Usman, over his alleged role in the raid on the house of Justice Mary Odili.

It was learnt that he would be charged this week along with a banker, lawyer, a fake police officer, a journalist and seven others.

Two soldiers who allegedly took part in the raid, according to the police, are still on the run.

Overall, about 15 suspects are expected to be taken to court this week in Abuja.

The home of Justice Odili on Imo River Crescent in the Maitama area of Abuja was raided on October 29 by some men claiming to be members of the Joint Panel Recovery unit of the Federal Ministry of Justice.

The men, including soldiers, embarked on the raid after obtaining a search warrant signed by a Chief Magistrate Court.

However, the court later revoked the warrant, claiming to have been deceived by the panel.

After the fiasco, the police arrested some of the persons involved.

The police claimed the suspects were part of a crime syndicate known for doing such raids.

Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, told our correspondent the immigration officer is now in police custody.

He said: “An immigration officer was also arrested. Approval has been given for all suspects to be arraigned. They will be treated professionally. And those that are indicted will be prosecuted. It doesn’t matter the background of the person. Nobody is going to be given special treatment.

“The military officers involved in the case have not been arrested”.
