The police in Ekiti State have charged three men before an Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged conspiracy and bank robbery in Oye Ekiti.

The accused persons are Omotoso Aliu, 56; Oyelowo Akande, 56; and Taiwo Ayobami, 52.

Two persons, including a policeman on security duty at the bank, were killed, while an unspecified amount of money was stolen during the incident in November last year.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Oriyomi Akinwale, alleged that the defendants conspired among themselves to commit felony to wit; armed robbery at the Oye Ekiti branch of a new generation bank.

Akinwale alleged that the defendants and others at large committed the offence on November 21, 2019, around 3.05pm.

He said the offence contravened Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Their counsel, Mr Timi Omotoso, urged the court to grant them bail, promising that they would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, in his ruling, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 each with one surety each in like sum.
