The Funeral Planning Committee has released schedules and programmes for the funeral of late Justice Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Samuel Chukwudumebi Oseji.

TheNigeriaLawyer had earlier reported that Mr Oseji, who was appointed to the Supreme Court bench in November 2020, died of a yet-to-be-known ailment at 67 on Tuesday the 28th day of September, 2021.

The Planning Committee noted that the family and the Delta State government have both approved November 12 as the date of the burial.

A Valedictory Court session will take place at the Supreme Court on November 4 while nights of tribute will come up on November 10 and another valedictory court session shall come up the next day November 11 at the High Court of Justice, Asaba, Delta State.

In a Notice, sighted by TheNigeriaLawyer signed by Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Justice Peter C. Obiorah and Secretary, Andrew O. Odum, Esq. reads, “The Funeral Planning Committee with the approval of the Government of Delta State and Oseji Family has released the following programme of activities for the funeral of Hon. Justice Samuel Chukwudumebi Oseji, JSC who died on Tuesday, the 28th day of September 2021, at the age of 67 years.

1. Thursday, 4th November,2021: Valedictory Session at the
Supreme Court of Nigeria, Abuja by 10.00am.

2. Wednesday, 10th November, 2021: Night of Tributes at Asaba
by 4.00pm.

3. Thursday, 11th November,2021: Valedictory Session at the
High Court of Justice, Asaba, Delta State by 10.00am.

4. Friday, 12th November,2021: Funeral Service and Interment at Idumuje-Unor in Aniocha North L.G.A.of Delta State.”

Born on June 2, 1954, Mr Oseji hails from Idumuje Unor in the Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, in the South-south zone of Nigeria.

Sworn into the Supreme Court bench on November 6, 2020, alongside seven others, Mr Oseji’s death reduces the number of the apex court’s bench to 17.

It comes about six months after the court also lost a judge, Sylvester Ngwuta, in March.
