The IP Institute Nigeria on the 2nd December, 2021 held its Induction Ceremony and Innovation Awards at the Nigerian National Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, FCT.

Speaking at the event, the Director-General of the Institute, Mr. Folarin Aluko observed “Today’s ceremony seeks to recognize and celebrate the contributions and achievements of our new fellows and Nigerian innovators who are making an impact in our world today. Indeed 2021 has been an interesting year for creators and IP owners. It is quite interesting that in spite of the pandemic, the 2020s have been declared to be the decade of the Creator. There is definitely a need to recognize the importance of IP as a strategic national asset. This moment calls for deep reflection and so in that light, I congratulate our new fellows, the awardees and everyone who has made today a possibility.”
Declaring the event open, Justice Tsoho noted that the Federal High Court ADR Center was open and available to parties seeking to resolve IP and other disputes amicably.
Delivering the goodwill message from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Head WIPO Nigeria office, Dr. Oluwatobiloba Moody congratulated the Fellows and the Institute. He assured the Institute of WIPOs support and collaboration towards the development of IP in Nigeria.
The newly minted Fellows of the Institute include Honourable Justice J.T. Tsoho, Chief Judge, Federal High Court Nigeria; Mr. Calixthus Okoruwa, CEO XLR8 Limited; Nureini Jimoh (SAN); Ezenwa Anumnu, Y.C. Maikyau (SAN); Anne Adeleye (Ag. Registrar of Trademarks).
The rank of Fellow is awarded to Nigerians who have made significant contributions to the growth and development of Intellectual Property in Nigeria, by their work, support and promotion of innovation and creativity.
Recipients of the Innovation Awards include the designer of the Nigerian sports car Jerry Mallo, Tiberias Foods, Hon. Justice Tsoho, Mrs Alero Okoruwa (Legal Practitioner and Creative Director of Stories from Magadalupsa), NBA President Olumide Akpata, Y.C Maikyau SAN.
