Adeniyi Adeyemi, who describes himself as the Director-General of the disputed Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, has accused the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, of allegedly receiving ₦400 million through a proxy and demanding an additional ₦200 million in connection with his claimed appointment.

Adeyemi made the allegation during a press conference in Abuja, where he also claimed that Gbajabiamila demanded 48 per cent of the purported council’s alleged ₦27,395,510,136 take-off grant, a request he said he rejected.

The allegations come amid an ongoing dispute over the status of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, also known as PFIPC.

On June 11, 2026, Gbajabiamila, in an official State House disclaimer, said the Federal Government did not recognise the body and that no appointment had been made in favour of Adeyemi.

According to the disclaimer, Adeyemi was allegedly portraying himself to the public as having been appointed by the Office of the Chief of Staff under an organisation styled as the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.

“The unsuspecting public is hereby advised to note that such an office does not exist under this administration and no appointment has been made in that regard,” the statement said.

The notice also urged foreign and diplomatic missions, financial and multilateral institutions, development organisations, security agencies and members of the public to take note of the disclaimer.

Adeyemi, however, rejected the denial, describing it as an attempt to silence what he called legitimate questions about the council, its alleged operations and its reported appearance in official government records.

He alleged that the dispute between him and the Chief of Staff arose after he refused to accede to financial demands allegedly linked to the council’s take-off grant.

“The major rationale behind the disagreement between myself and the Chief of Staff is because he allegedly requested 48 per cent of the take-off grant, ₦27,395,510,136, from the same agency which he denies exists, to which I rejected, after he collected a total sum of ₦400 million by proxy, with remaining balance of ₦200 million to secure the said appointment,” Adeyemi alleged.

As of the time of filing this report, Gbajabiamila had not publicly responded to the latest bribery allegations.

Adeyemi also questioned how the council allegedly found its way into the 2026 Appropriation Act if, as stated by the Presidency, it does not exist under the Tinubu administration.

He claimed that the council appeared on pages 50 and 51 of the 2026 budget and argued that the development raised questions about the integrity of the budget process.

“If the agency does not exist, yet found its way into the Nigerian national budget, what that means is that the entire 2026 appropriation budget is a fraud and should be discarded,” he said.

He added that it would be embarrassing for President Tinubu to have assented to a budget that allegedly contained an agency later described by the Chief of Staff as non-existent.

Adeyemi further claimed that the disputed council had operated for over one year, maintained office space at the Federal Secretariat, and had domiciliary, pounds and Treasury Single Account arrangements allegedly domiciled with the Central Bank of Nigeria.

He argued that such arrangements could not have been possible if the council had no administrative or official existence.

The controversy has also been fuelled by reports that the 2026 Appropriation Act listed the Presidential Economic Advisory Council/Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council under the Presidency with a total allocation of ₦1,302,978,784.

The reported allocation was broken down into ₦802,978,783 for personnel costs, ₦200,000,001 for overhead expenditure and ₦300,000,000 for capital projects.

Adeyemi accused Gbajabiamila of attempting to portray him as a fraudulent actor and of allegedly plotting to use security agencies to frame his diplomatic engagements as espionage or disloyalty.

He also questioned why the disclaimer was issued by the Chief of Staff rather than the President’s media aides, and challenged Gbajabiamila to make available all documents and communication trails from the President’s office relating to the matter.

Adeyemi further alleged that he survived an assassination attempt along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway on September 7, 2025, during which he said vital documents and two phones were taken away.

According to him, the incident was reported to the police and the Department of State Services, and he was later told that the phones were tracked to Gombe State.

He, however, alleged that an insider informed him that there was an “order from above” not to take further action.

Adeyemi also asked President Tinubu to set up an independent investigative panel to probe the alleged assassination attempt and the death of one Babatunde Tanimola, whom he described as an intermediary between him and Gbajabiamila.

He said the police claimed Tanimola died in a fire incident at a hotel in Utako, Abuja, on October 22, 2025, but insisted that the circumstances should be independently investigated.

Adeyemi said the proposed panel should also compel Gbajabiamila to produce official documents he has signed since assuming office as Chief of Staff.

He further demanded that the Chief of Staff step aside pending the outcome of the investigation.

According to him, the panel should include credible civil society organisations and international organisations, review budgetary references and institutional records, question all relevant persons and publish its findings transparently.

“The purpose is clarity, not denial versus counter-denial. If I am wrong, let an independent process prove it. If Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila is right, let it confirm it,” Adeyemi said.

The allegations remain unproven, while the Presidency’s official position is that the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council does not exist under the Tinubu administration and that no appointment was made in that regard.
