The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) convened an emergency meeting today with its key software service provider. The session, led by Registrar-General Hussaini Ishaq Magaji SAN, highlight the agency’s zero-tolerance stance on operational lapses that have hampered seamless business registrations and corporate filings.

The meeting comes against a backdrop of widespread user grievances regarding the CAC’s online portal, which has faced intermittent outages and technical glitches, delaying critical services for entrepreneurs and businesses across Nigeria. Customers have voiced frustrations over prolonged wait times, failed transactions, and inconsistent access, issues that have eroded trust in the commission’s digital infrastructure.

“The pains of our customers are our pains,” Magaji emphasized during the high-stakes discussions. He reiterated that Nigerians deserve “effortless and seamless transactions” and declared an end to leniency. In a stark warning, he stated, “The era of excuses is over; it’s either performance or exit.” This ultimatum signals potential contract termination if standards aren’t met, highlighting the gravity of the situation.

Magaji outlined a comprehensive set of strict performance benchmarks for the provider, including enhanced system reliability, faster response times, and proactive maintenance protocols. A firm deadline has been set for the full stabilization of the CAC portal, with no room for further delays. Implementation will be closely monitored, with regular audits to ensure compliance.

The CAC, established under the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, plays a pivotal role in Nigeria’s business ecosystem by registering companies, enforcing corporate governance, and facilitating economic growth. Recent digital upgrades aimed to streamline these processes, but persistent technical hurdles have undermined those efforts.

The commission has assured the public of interim measures to mitigate disruptions, including extended support hours and manual processing options where feasible. Further updates on the portal’s status and provider compliance will be shared via official channels.

As Nigeria pushes for a more digitized economy, today’s action by the CAC serves as a reminder of the accountability demanded from tech partners in public service delivery. The ball is now in the provider’s court to deliver or depart.
