*Reps Pass PIB Without Minority Caucus, Approve 3% For Host Community

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers in the House of Representatives on Friday walked out during consideration of the Electoral Act amendment bill.

Speaker Femi Gbajabiamiala had appealed to members to allow consideration of other sections of the bill while leaving out the contentious section 5.

However, after the consideration, Minority Leader Ndidi Elumelu said the House cannot be asked to rescind decision on section since it was not ruled upon.

He led PDP members out of the floor of the House in protest.

But the House proceeded to pass the Electoral Act leaving the mode of transmission of results to the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) to decide.

Also, the House of Representatives has adopted the report of the conference committee on the Petroleum Industry Bill.

The report was laid shortly after members of the minority caucus walked out of the chamber in protests against refusal to allow an amendment to Section 52(2) of the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill.

The report was considered, while the opposition lawmakers were addressing journalists at the Press Centre over the Electoral bill.
