At the 11th Bola Tinubu Colloquium in Abuja last week, the former Lagos State governor urged the FG to revisit the privatisation of the sector, saying the country could not afford to be too legalistic about it. Tinubu had said, “The PDP administration shared our generation, distribution and transmission to their friends and cronies without very deep and thoughtful research and evaluation. It has now become pork chops. “This privatisation must be reviewed. Put experts together for a more constructive reform to improve generation, transmission and distribution at all costs. We cannot afford to be too legalistic about this.” But the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, in an interview with our correspondent said the Goodluck Jonathan government ensured due diligence in the privatisation of the sector. He said, “I do not know; maybe he is saying we should go for anarchy if it is not going to be based on legality. I do not know what he wants because we are a people guided by law. Nigerians have agreed to be guided by the norms of democracy and law is one of the ingredients of democratic governance. I do not know what they are preaching and what they are up. “There are laws guiding the exercise. I do not think any Nigerian will disregard the law guiding the exercise. Inasmuch as the nation deserves improvement in our power sector, whatever we must do must be guided by the law if we do not want to cause confusion and crisis.” He added, “If any Nigerian wants to revisit any portion of our law, there are processes. I think we should be guided by those processes and not necessarily making statements. Whatever we want to do, we must follow the law and be guided by the law. “I believe that the (Goodluck Jonathan) government did due diligence and I believe that the government carried out its activities in the best interest of the nation.” Ologbondiyan accused the Muhammadu Buhari government of failing in his promises to deliver good governance and improve living standard of the people. He said, “The administration we had in the last four years did not make any improvement in the lives of Nigerians, whether they want to accept it or not; that is the absolute truth and that is the feelings of Nigerians. And that is what Nigerians hold on to. “They have failed to make any improvement in any part of our lives. It is an indictment. That is why I am saying that they have failed in every way of our national lives and the power sector has not improved.”]]>
