The Federal Government has clarified that Nigerians applying for international passports under the ongoing special passport intervention exercise in the United Kingdom are not required to pay any additional charges beyond the approved official fees.

The clarification was contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Minister of Interior on Media and Publicity, Alao Babatunde, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

According to the statement, the intervention was introduced to create additional opportunities for Nigerians living in the UK to process their passport applications and not to impose new financial obligations on them.

“This process does not come with extra cost different from the official fees of $150 and $230 for five-year and 10-year validity passports respectively, exclusive of bank charges,” the statement said.

The Federal Government stressed that neither the Ministry of Interior nor the Nigeria Immigration Service had introduced any charge outside the approved fees.

Tunji-Ojo also acknowledged complaints from some Nigerians in the UK concerning inconveniences encountered during the application and passport-processing exercise.

He said the Ministry of Interior was working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to address the reported challenges and improve the process for applicants.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to improving passport administration and delivering efficient services to Nigerians at home and abroad.
