A Lagos Magistrate’s Court sitting in Tinubu has sentenced a couple, Clement and Adetoun Mimiko, to eight years each—totaling 16 years behind bars-for defrauding retired Justice George. A. Oguntade of N20 million under false pretences.

The couple lured the ex-judge into a bogus land deal, claiming they had 150 acres for sale at Italiwo Village, Osun Road, Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State.
However, after receiving full payment, they failed to deliver the land or refund the money.
Their fraudulent scheme unraveled when Justice Oguntade sent workers to the land, only for them to be violently chased away by hoodlums, who warned that the land was never for sale.
Following the shocking revelation, the judge reported the scam to the Maroko Police Division, leading to the couple’s swift arrest and prosecution.
After a five-year trial, Chief Magistrate S.A. Gbajumo Ayoku found the Mimikos guilty of conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretences, and stealing, as charged by police prosecutor Inspector Hafsat Ajibode.
The court, however, offered the convicts an alternative: Refund the stolen N20 million and serve just six months in jail—or serve the full eight years each and still repay the money.
Justice has caught up with the fraudulent duo, leaving them behind bars as a cautionary tale against deception.
