Former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has withdrawn from the 2027 Sokoto South Senatorial race and ceded the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ticket to former Commissioner for Finance, Faruk Malami-Yabo.

Tambuwal, regarded as the leader of the ADC in Sokoto State, was said to have stepped aside in a move aimed at fostering unity and sustaining peace within the party following days of consultations and internal disagreements over the distribution of tickets ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Confirming the development in a telephone interview on Friday, the Sokoto State Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Lamir Aminu, said the former governor sacrificed his ambition in the interest of party stability and cohesion.

According to him, Tambuwal’s decision reflected the party’s commitment to internal democracy and youth inclusion.

“Senator Tambuwal decided to relinquish the ticket to promote harmony and strengthen internal democracy in the party,” he said.

“The ADC leadership in Sokoto is committed to giving younger politicians the opportunity to contest positions. The move by our leader reflects the party’s ideology of grooming young and vibrant leaders.”

He added that several House of Representatives tickets in the state had also been handed to younger candidates believed to possess the capacity to deliver quality representation and development to their constituencies.

Political observers described the development as a strategic move by the ADC to consolidate its growing influence in Sokoto State ahead of the 2027 elections.

Meanwhile, a prominent ADC chieftain, Faruku Umar S/Fada, has emerged as the party’s candidate for the Sokoto North/Sokoto South Federal Constituency.

His emergence, announced on Friday, is being viewed as a major boost for the opposition party as political activities gather momentum ahead of the polls.

Party stakeholders and supporters at the announcement described S/Fada as a grassroots politician with strong support across the two local government areas, expressing confidence in his ability to mobilise voters for the ADC.

Speaking shortly after securing the ticket, S/Fada thanked party leaders and supporters for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to run an inclusive, people-oriented campaign.

“My focus will be on effective representation, youth empowerment, education, and addressing the challenges affecting constituents in Sokoto North and Sokoto South,” he said.

“With the total support of every stakeholder in this party, we will succeed.”

The ADC has continued to witness increasing political realignments in Sokoto State, with several influential politicians and supporters reportedly joining the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Political analysts believe the emergence of S/Fada could further strengthen the party’s presence in the constituency as preparations for the elections intensify.
