House of Representatives member Ikenga Ugochinyere (Ideato Federal Constituency, Imo State) launched a scathing attack on Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, accusing him of orchestrating a desperate bid to seize control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State and beyond. Speaking without “fear or favor,” Ugochinyere described Wike as an ungrateful “parasite” exploiting President Bola Tinubu’s political capital while attempting to derail the opposition party’s national convention and presidential primary ahead of the 2027 elections.

The outspoken lawmaker, a vocal PDP loyalist and leader of the “G-60” opposition lawmakers’ group, delivered his remarks during a heated session amid escalating tensions in the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC). Ugochinyere’s address, lasting over 10 minutes, wove personal anecdotes, historical references, and urgent calls to action, framing Wike’s maneuvers as a “personal agenda” threatening Nigeria’s democracy.

“This whole thing is about somebody’s desperation to seize the structures of a state that is not his own one man,” Ugochinyere thundered, directly referencing Wike’s alleged efforts to treat Rivers State as his “private estate.”

He dismissed Wike’s perceived bravado, warning that “nothing will happen” to those who oppose him, and questioned how Wike rose to power in local government without widespread support. He said:

“Did you win the election if not because of everybody’s wife? And now you call them names and insult their families? He’s not the first to experience all these things… yet he has enjoyed support over the years.”

The core of Ugochinyere’s criticism centered on Wike’s role in fracturing the PDP. He alleged that Wike’s defection-aligned electioneering and interference with party affairs left the opposition “destroying today” due to his personal ambitions. He accused Wike of imposing candidates, sparking internal conflict, and introducing proxies to maintain influence, even involving high court battles.

“You brought everyone with the removed today again,” he said, adding that only now, “at the end of this,” are party leaders “doing the right thing.”

Personal barbs escalated as Ugochinyere mocked Wike’s arrogance:

“You called me stupid because you think you can open your mouth and talk like that. But in the end, you don’t even know the perception people have about you.”

He urged introspection, warning that public sentiment has reached a tipping point:

“People have gotten to a point where enough is enough.”

In a direct appeal to President Tinubu, Ugochinyere painted Wike as a political liability:

“I advise the president: you’re not the first he can dance around. He’s leeching on you like a parasite to use your political capital to fight his personal war, drawing enemies for you.”

The lawmaker criticized Tinubu’s silence on Wike’s “political rampage,” interpreting it as tacit approval. He urged the president to distinguish between Wike’s personal agenda and matters of national interest:

“It’s not city work… it’s a personal agenda, and you’re losing mileage every day on it.”

Ugochinyere claimed there is a “plot already in motion” to sabotage the PDP’s future:

“We want to ensure that the Peoples Democratic Party does not have this year’s national convention… not only that, but also to ensure the party doesn’t have a presidential primary.”

He commended the NWC majority “over 15 members out of 18” for showing leadership and pledged resilience even if courts treat the matter as an “internal party issue,” calling it a “victory for us.”

Outlining a roadmap, Ugochinyere demanded the National Executive Council (NEC) convene immediately to remove Wike’s proxies and dissolve illegally constituted chapters across the country, particularly in Rivers State, while reconstituting executives via zonal congresses.

“Even an ex parte order from abroad if he likes, let him go to Congo and secure one won’t halt internal purges. Wike is a threat to the survival of the party.”

He concluded by thanking Nigerians and democracy advocates:

“It’s only when good people stay quiet that evil continues to thrive. People behave as if they’re untouchable. It’s time to summon our courage. This is the moment we must rise.”
