The Pan African Lawyers Union (PALU) has expressed shock over the failure of police and other security agencies to fish out political hoodlums who went on a rampage in the Abuja resident of Honourable Justice Mary Odili, a Supreme court judge.

TheNigerialawyer recalls that Wednesday, a group of protesters under the aegis of Bayelsa APC Youth Vanguard for real change had led a protest to the Abuja residence of Justice Mary Odili over the apex court’s decision removing Bayelsa Governor-elect, David Lyon, as duly elected over forgery by his running mate, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo.

In a statement sunday signed by the President of PALU, Chief Emeka Obegolu, FICMC, made available to TheNigerialawyer,  he said “that the union is shocked that almost a week after the unprecedented attack at the residence of a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, security agencies in Nigeria are yet to investigate and reveal the identity of the persons involved in this desecration of the family home of a Judicial Officer, including the sponsors of the condemnable act.

“PALU is using this medium to warn political office holders and politicians to thread very carefully on issues involving the judiciary and avoid acts and statements that will threaten the independence and impartiality of the judiciary and judicial office holders or undermine the credibility of the judiciary as in institution.

“We commend the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Tanko Muhammad, GCON and all the Justices of the Supreme Court for their uncommon restraint in the face of the many provocative utterances and actions by politicians in response or reaction to judicial pronouncements proceeding from the apex court.

“PALU is demanding that the Inspector General of Police and the Director-General of the DSS should within 48 hours identify and make public the names of the hoodlums and their sponsors, including bringing all who are involved to face the law.
