Dr. Obiajulu Uja, a legal practitioner  at Lexford International University, United Kingdom, has declared support for Oyinkansola Badejo-Okunsanya, SAN, FCIArb, in the forthcoming 2026 Nigerian Bar Association national election.

Uja, who said he has been a member of the Nigerian Bar for over 25 years and belongs to the NBA Bwari Branch, Abuja, stated that the NBA election, scheduled for Saturday, July 18, 2026, is only 10 days away and that Badejo-Okunsanya remains his preferred candidate for the office of NBA President.

According to him, every two years, registered lawyers across the country elect national officers to pilot the affairs of the mandatory professional association for the next two years.

He described NBA national elections as usually highly contested, noting that the process often attracts intense interest from senior members of the profession and different support groups.

Uja said although the election was initially scheduled by the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association for July 20, 2026, it has now been rescheduled for Saturday, July 18, 2026.

He noted that the build-up to the election has generated controversy, including reports of calls from the office of the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation for postponement of the election, as well as a response by the outgoing NBA leadership under Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, insisting that the NBA is an independent body and not a department under the Attorney-General’s office.

According to him, the controversy shows that there is strong interest in the election because of the presidential candidates and their supporters.

Uja said after considering the three presidential candidates contesting for the office of NBA President in 2026, he had resolved to support Badejo-Okunsanya.

He said his support for her was based on what he described as her boldness, integrity, intelligence, transparency, accountability and motherly wisdom, which he said would help in stabilising and managing the NBA.

“I have decided to go with Oyinkansola Badejo-Okunsanya, SAN, not just because she is bold, beautiful, integrity-based, intelligent, transparent and accountable, but endowed with motherly wisdom of keeping homes such as our dear NBA,” he said.

Uja further stated that a vote for Badejo-Okunsanya would be a vote to stabilise and safeguard the independence of the NBA from unnecessary political and government interference.

He added that the candidate had promised that both young and older lawyers would practise better under her administration if elected.

He called on legal practitioners across the country to support and vote for Badejo-Okunsanya as the next President of the Nigerian Bar Association for the 2026–2028 term.

“Join me and majority of other legal practitioners in Nigeria in voting Oyinkansola Badejo-Okunsanya, SAN, on Saturday, July 18, 2026, as the next President of the Nigerian Bar Association for the 2026–2028 term,” he said.
