The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress and incumbent Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, winner of the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election.

Oyebanji was declared winner after securing victory in all 16 local government areas of the state.

The Returning Officer for the election, Professor Adenike Oladiji, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, announced the result at about 3:13 a.m. on Sunday.

According to the results declared by INEC, Oyebanji polled 319,224 votes to defeat the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Wole Oluyede, who scored 40,543 votes.

Dare Bejide, who was also in the race, polled 12,872 votes.

Oladiji said 384,940 voters were accredited for the election. She added that 375,777 votes were recorded as valid, while 6,332 votes were rejected.

A total of 382,109 votes were cast in the election.

Voting commenced in several polling units at about 8:31 a.m. on Saturday and officially ended at 2:30 p.m., after which results were collated from the 16 local government areas at the State Collation Centre.

Reacting to his victory, Oyebanji described his re-election as a renewed call to service and pledged to govern with humility, compassion and the fear of God.

He expressed gratitude to the people of Ekiti State for the confidence reposed in his administration, saying the outcome of the election had placed a greater responsibility on him.

“I have a proper understanding of the responsibility that this victory has placed on my shoulders. It is a responsibility of service to the people of Ekiti State,” Oyebanji said.

He assured residents that his administration would remain committed to quality governance, improved welfare and the delivery of democratic dividends across the state.

The governor urged the people to expect better performance in the coming years, noting that the renewed mandate would inspire his administration to work harder in meeting the aspirations of Ekiti residents.

Oyebanji said his government would continue to implement the state’s development agenda while remaining open to new ideas and emerging priorities.

“We have a development guide and we will continue to faithfully implement that plan. Our focus remains the comprehensive implementation of our development agenda for the benefit of all Ekiti people,” he stated.
