*Says A Total Of 900 Cards Have Been Distributed

The Y. C. Maikyau, SAN’s led Nigerian Bar Association National Welfare Committee has said that over 200 lawyers have benefited from the first phase of the pilot scheme of the Affordable Health Care

This is contain in a statement made available to TheNigeriaLawyer signed by a member of the National Welfare Committee, Henry Barnabas Ehi who said that Maikyau made this disclosure during his presentation at the just concluded meeting of the NBA National Executive Committee which held tat Ilorin, the state capital of Kwara State, from 8th to 9th of June, 2022

“The atmosphere was filled with encomium of Praise for the NBA Welfare Committee led by Mr. Y. C Maikyau, SAN at the just concluded Nigerian Bar Association National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Ilorin, Kwara State on the 9th of June, 2022 as Mr. Y.C Maikyau, SAN with his power-packed team, inclusive of Ogaga Emoghwanre (Secretary), Auta Nyada, Henry Barnabas Ehi and Martha Omolade Benson (NBA Desk Officer) made a robust presentation to NEC members on the closure of the Pilot Scheme of the Affordable Health Care for 1000 lawyers across the Country.

“Y. C Maikyau, SAN informed NEC that a total of 900 cards have been distributed so far and that the scheme was working with over 200 lawyers already benefiting from the scheme; to further elaborate on this point, the learned silk identified a pregnant lawyer who is currently undergoing health cover and have been able to access antenatal without cost. Y. C Maikyau, SAN also added that the Chairman of Bukuru Branch who earlier complained at the last NEC had confirmed that his complaint has been resolved and he has been able to access medical care.

“In all the learned silk stressed that for every complain or challenge faced by any lawyer under the scheme , the committee should be called upon as they will be more than happy to ensure that any issues faced will be resolved.” Ehi said

Ehi added that then NBA President, Olumide Akpata, commended the NBA Welfare Committee team for good job and advised lawyers to key into it.

“In reaction, The President Olumide Akpata and members of NEC commended the Welfare Committee for its effort as well as informed NEC that the Health Insurance for lawyers is working and all lawyers should key into it.

The event saw insurance cards presented to the National officers as well as testimonials from beneficiaries.

“Having completed the first phase of the health insurance for lawyers, the next stage is the registration of Lawyers and members of their family who subscribe to the scheme. With just N15, 000.00, the Nigerian Lawyer can now access primary , secondary and tertiary healthcare! With additional 15, 000 per family member, lawyers can now onboard their family members!

“The bar is indeed working for all!” Ehi said
