Otu Oka-Iwu Abuja has expressed her displeasure over the invasion of Justice Mary Odili’s home by Security agencies.

Otu Oka-Iwu in its statement by President, Ejiofor Onwuaso, condemn in totality the Gestapo, unlawful and intimidating siege on the Abuja residence of Honourable Justice Mary Ukaego Odili by unknown security operatives.

The group said “Our preliminary enquiry on the basis of the siege revealed that such brazen acts of impunity by some security agents was allegedly made pursuant to a purported Search Warrant by a Magistrate Court in Abuja who was misled into issuing such warrant by an Asset recovery team domiciled within the office of the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation.

“Although the Magistrate upon the discovery of the error and mischief has since revoked the warrant and the Attorney General has also come out to deny any knowledge or authorisation of the said rade on the residence of the referred second most senior Justice of the Supreme Court, Otu Oka-Iwu feels that despite the denial by the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation, the embarrassing acts of the security operatives should not be swept under the carpet without proper investigation to unravel who sanctioned such raid and the culprits penalised accordingly.

“In the light of the first siege on the homes of some Justices and judges sometime in 2016 (FOR WHICH NONE OF THE JUSTICES OR JUDGES HAVE BEEN CONVICTED OF ANY KNOWN OFFENCE TILL DATE) we view this recent raid as another calculated attempt to intimidate, embarrass and subject the Judiciary to ridicule.

“To this end, we commend the bold statement of the NBA President in condemning this dastardly affront and reiterate the position of the NBA that we shall not stand idly and watch as democracy is eroded and Rule law relegated to the background and a mockery made of the independence of the Judiciary.

“We assure my Lord- Hon. Justice Mary Ukaego Odili of our solidarity and support at this time and urge her to continue to discharge her duties uprightly without fear of any intimidation as we enjoin all Lawyers of conscience to arise in defence of the independence of the Judiciary and protection of our democracy.

“Otu Oka-Iwu, Onye Aghana Nwanneya.”
