A right activist, Barrister Kanmi Ajibola has gone to court urging the court to compel the governor to make available to the public what the state has also collected as fund from the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and the federation account. According to him, “As a citizen of Osun state and as a tax-payer, I have the right to ask the governor to give details of the state debt profile but all indications showed that the governor is avoiding to come out to explain to the us how much he took as loan”. But Aregbesola’s counsel, Barrister Ajibola Bashiru brought a counter-motion where he urged the court to throw away the applicant’s motion, insisting that Barrister Ajibola lacked locus standi to file the suit and that the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain it. In her brief remark, the presiding judge, Justice Adepele Ojo who is also the current state Chief Judge (CJ) adjourned the hearing of all the “pending applications till January, 23, 2017”. In another matter filed by the same applicant against Aregbesola and before Justice Ojo, Barrister Ajibola had challenged the governor on the sacking of 678 staff of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Osogbo. According to him, the governor during his campaign did not promise to sack workers but rather promised employment to jobless people, “and in this case, the governor cannot sack people he did not employ in the manner he did it”. Speaking on this issue, Ajibola disclosed that the suit he filed has “helped in stopping the government from implementing the policy as the 688 workers are still in service of LAUTECH earning half salaries like their colleagues”. Governor Aregbesola was represented in this suit by Barrister Adekunle Adeniyi, a state counsel from the Ministry of Justice and the matter was also adjourned till Friday, January 27, 2017 by Justice Ojo.]]>
