The Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY) has recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against terrorism in the North West, following a precision airstrike on terrorists converged at the foot of Asola Hills in Yankuzo Ward, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

According to the Nigerian Army, the strike based on credible intelligence targeted a large assembly of terrorists gathered for a wedding ceremony. The militants reportedly came from the Faskari and Kankara axes of Katsina State and various parts of Zamfara.
Military sources confirmed that several terrorists were neutralised in the attack, while many others sustained serious injuries. Survivors were said to have been evacuated by their comrades to Yankuzo village for treatment.
In a swift follow-up, ground troops of 1 Brigade under Sector 2 of OPFY launched a clearance operation and successfully fought through an ambush laid along the route to the village.
The Media Information Officer of OPFY, Major Devid Adewusi, in a statement on Thursday, confirmed that no fewer than 30 terrorists were eliminated in the coordinated air and ground operations.
“Locals and other reliable sources from the area have confirmed that no fewer than 30 terrorists were neutralized during the air interdiction by the Air Component of OPFY and the follow-up operations by ground troops,” the statement read.
Additionally, four suspected terrorist collaborators from Kunchin Kalgo village in Tsafe LGA were critically injured during the raids.
The successful military operation has brought a sense of relief to residents of Yankuzo, Tsafe, and neighbouring communities, who have endured repeated attacks and harassment by terrorist groups in recent months.
