The Kwara State Government has announced the immediate closure of Government High School and Government Day Secondary School, Adeta, Ilorin, in response to recent incidents of student unrest.
The decision follows reports of violent clashes among students, disruption of academic activities, and damage to school facilities within the two institutions.
Confirming the development on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Lawal Olohungbebe, said the move was aimed at restoring order and ensuring the safety of all stakeholders.
Only students currently writing the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE) and their teachers will be allowed on the school premises for the duration of the exams.
“All SSSCE candidates must wear their school identification cards to gain entry into the compound,” the commissioner said.
He also advised parents and guardians to ensure their children remain at home during the closure.
“Any student found flouting the directive will be apprehended by security officers,” he warned.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to upholding discipline and safety in public schools across the state.
