The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said only Computer Based Test (CBT) centres with laptops will henceforth get accreditation for the conduct of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Addressing a media parley yesterday in Lagos, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, stressed that the measure was aimed at addressing power failures which cause disruption during examinations at its accredited centres.
The JAMB registrar said centres with desktop computers would not be allowed to take part in the examination, going forward.
He urged old centres still using desktops to get Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) devices to avoid disruptions during examinations.
“To address the incidence of power failure during examinations, the board has put in place a more stringent measure for accreditation of new CBT centres. Only new centres with laptops would henceforth get accreditation. We won’t register new centres with desktop computers. Old centres with desktop must get UPS,” Oloyede said.
The JAMB registrar also announced plans to upgrade the board’s Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS) to serve as communication channel between it, various tertiary institutions and regulatory agencies, including the National Universities Commission (NUC), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), as from January 1, 2023.
He said it was imperative to upgrade the IBASS and go paperless to enhance efficiency in the services of the board, the regulatory agencies and the institutions.
According to him, there would be a stakeholders meeting on November 14, 2022 to that effect.
“JAMB is upgrading its IBASS for admission-related issues among stakeholders. This would enable us to go paperless. There will be a meeting on November 14, 2022 to announce that,” Oloyede added.
The JAMB registrar also announced that the board had approved a maximum of N1,000 to be paid for CBT centres for mock UTME and the main examination.
He said the review became necessary due to high cost of energy/power.
Oloyede dispelled the rumours that the board would not sell forms for next year’s examination because of the backlog of admissions in universities caused by the strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASU)).
He also said the board would explore the possibility of using e-wallet for payment for its services.
“We want to start exploring the use of e-wallet for students to transact business with us and avoid paying exorbitant charges on other payment platforms,” he said.
