Members of the Nigerian Law School Class of 2002 came together in an evening of class, elegance, glitz and glamour to celebrate the achievements of their set and to honour the incumbent President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN.

The gathering also marked the historic emergence of Mrs Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya as the first elected female President of the Association, further cementing the set’s place in the leadership history of the Bar.
Welcoming members and guests at about 8:06 p.m., Tonye Pepple said the gathering had been organised to celebrate Osigwe, a member of the 2002 set, while also recognising the president-elect’s historic election.
Pepple described the class as a “survival set,” reflecting on the shared experiences of its members at the Nigerian Law School and their more than two decades of professional growth.
Members subsequently introduced themselves, recalling the Law School campuses they attended and their current states of residence. The introductions gave old colleagues an opportunity to reconnect, reminisce and celebrate their collective journey at the Bar.
The president-elect attended with an entourage that included Oludayo Femi and Ada Udobi, a former Vice-Chairman of the NBA Onitsha Branch, among others.
A major highlight of the evening was a toast proposed by Chuka Ikwuazom, SAN, who expressed pride in belonging to the set.
Ikwuazom thanked God for what he described as a historic moment for the class and for the wider legal profession, noting that the set had made history by producing the first elected female President of the Association.

He congratulated Badejo-Okusanya on her emergence and urged her to deliver the “dividends of democracy” to members of the Bar when she assumes office.
He expressed confidence in her ability to lead successfully and wished her a fruitful tenure, before proposing a toast to wisdom, good health and prosperity.
The celebration also featured the ceremonial cutting of the cake by the president-elect, surrounded by members and colleagues.
The significance of the evening was heightened by the fact that the same set produced the incumbent President while another of its members prepares to succeed him.
Beyond the speeches and tributes, the reunion was marked by the enduring friendships formed more than two decades ago at the Nigerian Law School, with members celebrating professional accomplishments alongside personal ones.
As the evening drew to a close, members expressed optimism about the incoming administration and confidence that the set would continue to make meaningful contributions to the Bar and to the legal profession.
